Calendars of Badgers Licenses and of Convictions for Swearing

Devon Quarter Sessions, DRO - Devon QS14

Transcribed by Brian Brassett

These documents variously contain Calendars of Badgers & Licensed Traders, and of Convictions for Swearing or selling Beer without a licence. (Badger is defined in the OED as "One who buys corn and other commodities and carries them elsewhere to sell; an itinerant dealer who acts as a middleman between producer (farmer, fisherman, etc.) and consumer; a cadger, hawker, or huckster", and Kidder (spelled Kiddier) is listed as a synonym for Badger.)
