Rev George Oliver DD, (1781-1867), was born at Newington, Surrey, 1782, and came to Exeter in 1807 remaining in the City until his death in 1861. He was an ordained Roman Catholic priest. Doctor Oliver was well known as a laborious antiquary, and his works on ecclesiastical antiquities in Devon earned him a high reputation for scholarship. He is known to have published at least 27 papers on the topic. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the Princeton University Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
