Raleigh, Sir Walter, Birthplace of
In Notes on Slips connected to Devonshire, Trans. Devon. Assoc. 1881, Vol XIII., pp. 308-312.
by
W. Pengelly, FRS etc
Prepared by Michael Steer
Pengelly points out and elaborates upon significant differences that he designates “slips”, between a letter from Sir Walter to Mr Richard Duke reported in the British Register, or Monthly Magazine for August 1804, and the same letter that appeared in the Association’s Transactions for 1873. The letter has bearing on Sir Walter’s birthplace. The article, from a copy of a rare and much sought-after journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
