The Report was presented at the Association’s July 1892 Plymouth meeting. The Devonshire Association, founded in 1862, is a non-profit organization, dedicated to the study and appreciation of all things Devonian. It is the only society concerned with every aspect of the county and is the only one of its kind in Britain. The Committee’s Report has been organized in the following section headings: The Penitential of Bishop Bartholomew, Weather Sayings, Charms or Medical Superstitions; Witchcraft; Popular Beliefs and Sayings; Charms, and Miscellaneous The contributor’s name is appended to each of the notes. The article, from a copy of a rare journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitization of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
