by

P.F.S Amery (Ed.)

Trans. Devon Assoc., vol. XXVIII, (1896), pp. 90-102.

Prepared by Michael Steer

The Report was presented at the Association’s 1896 Ashburton meeting. The Devonshire Association, founded in 1862, is a non-profit organization, dedicated to the study and appreciation of all things Devonian. It is the only society concerned with every aspect of the county and in 1895 was the only one of its kind in Britain. The Report presents a series of Notes, these including a lengthy poem on the White Bird of the Oxenhams, are arranged in the following order: Legends ; Witchcraft ; Charms, or Medical Superstitions; and General Folk-lore. The article, from a copy of a rare journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitization of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
