Seventeenth Report of the Committee on Devonshire Folklore

by

P.F.S Amery (Ed.)

Trans. Devon Assoc., vol.  XXXII, (1900), pp. 83-92.

Prepared by Michael Steer

The Report was read at the Association’s August 1900 Totnes meeting. It is essentially a compendium of short sections on such fascinating topics as, for example, the Wish or Yeth Hounds; the well-known Oxenham omen; Easter morning sun dancing; as well as several “scraps” of Devonshire folk-lore” collected by committee member Lady Rosalind Northcote. Devon family historians will recognise many of the names in this index as frequent contributors to the Association’s Transactions. The Report, from a copy of a rare and much sought-after journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers
