Peter Benson was baptised at Northam on 7th October 1742, the son of Thomas Benson and Frances (nee Melhuish).

He married Catherine Hogg on 15th May 1769 (place unknown, information from a Faculty Office Marriage Licence).
They had 4 children:
1772 - Margaret Hogg Benson
1776 - Thomas Benson
1778 - Frances Benson
1780 - John Benson

He was buried on 9th September 1799 at Northam Parish Church.

1799: Will of Peter Benson, died 1799, proved 1800, esquire of Napp, Northam.

Executors: John Warren Glubb of Torrington, Jasper Pickard of Northam.

Legatees: Miss Mary Tytherly of Appledore: one annuity of £10 during her natural life.

Legatees: John Warren Glubb and Jasper Pickard:

All the rest residue and remained of this Personal Estate and Effects (subject and charged with payment of his just Debts Legacies & Funeral Expenses) he gave to the said John Warren Glubb & Jasper Pickard Upon Trust to sell and dispose of the same or such part thereof as should be necessary for the payment of all his just Debts and Funeral Expenses and after payment thereof Upon Trust to pay and deliver the residue of his Personal Estate and Effects unto his son John Benson for his own proper use and Benefit and appointed the said John Warren Glubb and Jasper Pickard Executors.
