The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Castleventry contained the following places:

"CASTLEVENTRY, a parish partly in the barony of East Carbery, and partly in the barony of Ibane and Barryroe, in the county of Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 4 miles to the N. of Rose Carbery. It lies in a hilly and boggy district near Carrickfadda Mountain, and was the site of a fortress erected about 1300 by the Knights Templars. The living is a vicarage forming part of the union of Kilkerranmore, in the diocese of Cork, Ross, and Cloyne. The church is a modern building in the early English style. Ruins of the old parish church stand on part of the site of the Knights Templars' fortress."
