KILQUANE, a parish, in the barony of LONGFORD, county of GALWAY, and province of CONNAUGHT, 3½ miles (W.) from Eyrecourt, on the road to Loughrea; containing 1674 inhabitants. This parish comprises 4801 statute acres, as applotted under the tithe act. It is a rectory, prebend, and vicarage, in the diocese of Clonfert; the rectory is appropriate partly to the see, partly to the prebend of Kilquane in the cathedral of Clonfert, and partly to the vicarage, which forms part of the union of Dononaughta. The tithes amount to £112. 12. 3½., of which £55. 7. 8¼|. is payable to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, £7- 16. 11. to the dean, £7. 16. 11. to the prebendary, and £41. 10. 9¼. to the vicar. In the R. C. divisions it is the head of a union or district, called Queenborough, comprising this parish and that of Fahey, in each of which is a chapel. There are two private schools, in which about 200 children are educated.
