The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Killowen contained the following places:

"KILLOWEN, a parish in the barony of Coleraine, county Londonderry, province of Ulster, Ireland, containing part of its post town, Coleraine. The parish is about 2 miles square, and lies along the left bank of the river Bann. The greater part of the surface is under tillage. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Derry, value £180, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was built in 1830, by means of a sum raised from various sources. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to those of Aghadowey and Dunboe. There are three Sundays and five day schools. The site of M'Ughtry's Castle is now occupied by the modern mansion of Jackson's Hall."
