BALLINGADDY, a parish, in the barony of COSTLEA, county of LIMERICK, and province of MUNSTER, 2¼ miles (S.) from Kilmallock, on the road to Kilfinnan; containing 1031 inhabitants. It comprises 5615 statute acres, as applotted under the tithe act, of which about 400 are mountain, and the remainder is generally in a good state of cultivation. Mount-Russel, the residence of J. Russell, Esq., is beautifully situated at the foot of the mountain range, commanding an extensive view over a very rich vale. It is a rectory and vicarage, in the diocese of Limerick, and forms part of the union of Kilmallock: the tithes amount to £280. The ruins of the old church are situated near Riverfield; and adjoining the churchyard are 24 acres of excellent glebe.
In the R. C. divisions it forms part of the union or district of Kilmallock; the chapel is a small thatched building. There is a pay school, in which are about 40 boys and 30 girls.
