Offers of Support (D7)

From time to time a GENUKI Maintainer may/will be approached with an offer of support for GENUKI, the nature of which requires access rights on GENUKI.

An offer could address, for example,

  • maintenance of specific page(s) within a country, county or counties
  • maintenance of a country or county (most typically that of a country or county for which a new maintainer is currently being sought).
  • other support, e.g. for the Church Database. etc.

On receiving an offer of support the page maintainer should seek to ascertain from the volunteer, in addition to the proposed nature of the support, some basic information such as an alternative means of contact, ideally both a phone number and a postal address, rather than just an email address - for use only if and when there are protracted problems reaching them by email. A secondary email address would also be useful if available.

The volunteer may also be offered the opportunity to provide brief relevant details of themselves - e.g. membership of the local family history society, proximity to archives, involvement in related projects, other genealogy background, etc., - should they so wish.

An Administrator will review the offer of support, in conjunction with the relevant county or country page maintainer(s), to assess its overall suitability and the impact of the proposal on the county or country page maintainer(s).

If necessary the proposal will be suitably revised in discussion with the the page maintainer(s) and the proposer until consensus on a suitable proposal is reached.

An Administrator will determine the appropriate access rights necessary to support the proposal, which will depend on the nature and extent of the proposal.

When access rights have been assigned, relevant people should then be advised, including the new volunteer.
